Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

What is MFA?

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to your account. In addition to your password, you’ll be asked to verify your identity using a second factor (a code sent to your mobile device or generated by an app). MFA is mandatory for Ratio.City accounts as of August 2025.

Why MFA matters

What you'll need

Before you begin, you will need to have: 

  1. A smartphone

  2. Access to the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android) 

  3. Your Ratio.City account login information (username and password)

  4. A computer or device where you can log in to your account 

Step-by-step: Setting up MFA with a QR code

Step 1: Download an authenticator app (if you don’t already have one) 

You’ll need a special app to get your login code. We recommend: 

  • Microsoft Authenticator 

  • Google Authenticator 

To install the app:

  • Go to the App Store or Google Play Store on your phone

  • Search for Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator 

  • Tap ‘Install’

Step 2: Log in to your Ratio.City account on your computer 

  • Go to your login page

  • Enter your username and password as usual

  • You’ll be prompted to set up MFA by ‘scan this QR code with Google Authenticator (or similar) app’

 

Step 3: Open the authenticator app you downloaded on your phone

  • Open the app you just installed

  • Tap the ‘+’ button in Google Authenticator or blue QR code icon in Microsoft Authenticator

  • Use your phone’s camera to scan the QR code shown on your computer screen

| 💡Tip: Hold your phone steady and point the camera at the QR code, it will automatically recognize it!

 

Step 4: 🎉 You’re set up!

  • The app will start showing 6-digit codes that change every 30 seconds (see below for further details on how to login with your one-time password).

  • These codes are your extra layer of security

  • Done! MFA is now active on your account

Step-by-step: Logging in to Ratio.City with MFA using a one-time password

Step 1: Open your authenticator app

  • Locate and open the authenticator app on your mobile device

  • If prompted, unlock your phone or app with a PIN, fingerprint, or face scan

Step 2: Find the code for your account

  • Look for your work or application account name in the app

  • You will see a 6-digit code (or 8-digit in some cases) next to it

  • The countdown timer or moving bar shows how long the code is valid

Step 3: Enter the one-time password prompted on the screen

  • On your login page, type the code exactly as shown in your authenticator app

  • Do not include spaces

  • Press Submit or Verify before the timer runs out

 

Step 4: If the code expires

  • If the timer runs out before you submit, wait for the next code to appear

  • Enter the new code and click Submit

Tip: There is an option to select “remember this device for 30 days” when submitting your code, otherwise you will be prompted to enter the MFA code every 3 days.
